Sri Akilandeswari Vidyalaya saw the light of day on the 5th of June, 1975. It had an auspicious beginning with Swamy Santhanantha of Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Tiruparaithurai, lighting the Kuthuvilakku, to mark the occasion. The strength of the Vidyalaya in June, 1976 was 168 students in the LKG class to Std. III. The Vidyalaya added Stds. IV to VI in June, 1976. The student strength of the Vidyalaya has since been growing steadily. Initially the campus blue-print was for a student strength of 1600. When the strength reached 1860 in 2009-2010, the Vidyalaya desired to restrict the classroom strength, and the admission of students into the school was restricted to 120 at the LKG level.The Present student strength is 1450.
