Mary immaculate Girls’ High School, Kalina, located opposite Our Lady of Egypt church, Kalina is a minority institution affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of secondary and Higher Secondary Education. It is run by the Mission Sisters of Ajmer, an Indian congregation of religious sisters working for the upliftment of women. In the year 1963, with the initiative of Msgr. Marcus Gonsalves, the then Parish priest of Our Lady of Egypt Church, Kalina and with the support of the Reverend Valerian Cardinal Gracias, a separate school for girls took its root in Kalina. Initially classes were held in two classrooms which were rented out by St. Mary’s School, Kalina. The church later donated land to the sisters and in the year 1964, six classrooms were ready and was blessed by Msgr. Marcus Gonsalves. From humble beginnings, the school has now risen to become one of the leading institutions in Kalina, catering to the girl child. To meet the challenges posed by communalism and globalisation we will promote a counter culture of harmony and solidarity, based on Spirituality of Communion, as a basis for learning to live together, in and through our Institutions.
