Mater Dei School was established in 1956 by by the Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. A Christian minority school was begun with the primary objective of providing education in a christian atmosphere to all the children, especially the Christians. The aim of the school is personal and integral formation of the young. The school makes a special efforts towards the moral, intellectual, spiritual, social and physical development of children. The objective is to provide a stimulating environment which encourages holistic development of students.
The school strive to inculcate the staff and students with a sound philosophy of life, based on faith in God, respect for the individual, concern for the less privileged and the ideals of truth and justice inspired by the Christian vision.
Mater Dei School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and offers classes from I to XII. The system of continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) is followed. Students are evaluated based on projects and other work, in addition to examinations.
The school offers the following streams in class XI and XII — arts, science and commerce.
Sports and games such as chess, carrom, volleyball, kho-kho, softball, badminton, table tennis, basketball, and athletics are on offer. After school, coaching in basketball, table tennis, karate, gymnastics and roller skating is provided. Students also participate in drama, singing, dancing, quizzes and debates. Regular dance and music classes (both Indian and Western) are offered.
