Reading Time: 3 minutes

Heritage Xperiential Learning School (HXLS), with its commitment to an experiential project-based pedagogy and integrated curriculum, has established a formidable reputation for itself as a progressive, innovative school in just over a decade that it has been operational.

Heritage Xperiential Learning School the only example of a progressive school that offers alternate education in the mainstream, disproving the perception that experiential education can only take place on a small scale. HXLS has regularly found representation among the top schools in Gurgaon as much for its academic reputation and infrastructure, as for its focus on students with special needs or those from economically weaker sections. Other areas where the school has been cited for excellence include: co-curricular activity, leadership and management, sports education, life skills education and conflict resolution, and parent involvement.

Origin

The school was initiated in 2007, with a vision to create a learning community where each is free to be and grow towards the realization of their highest human potential through harmonious integration of spirit, heart, mind and body. The spirit of institution has helped it in gaining a reputation among the best schools in Gurgaon.

At Heritage Xperiential Learning School, we believe that every child is unique and we nurture that uniqueness. The future we envision for each child is to become a self-aware, conscientious world citizen, a learner for life and a creative, connected and collaborative problem solver. A Heritage student understands the balance in growth required in different domains – physical, social, emotional and cognitive and creative.

Curriculum

Almost everyone agrees that quality education is about possibilities. It is about success in real life, discovering the child’s innate talents, excitement in learning new things, being a good human being and a contributing citizen.

Our innovation has been to bring together age-old tenets of Eastern philosophy with Western principles of progressive education from some of the best-regarded educators from around the world to frame pedagogies and methodologies that have a successful track record within mainstream education. HXLS’ experiential learning approach is aimed at ensuring that learning has an authentic purpose, is engaging and instrumental in helping students address complex problems and find meaningful solutions.

With affiliation from CBSE, IGCSE, the school promotes education through Experiential learning and PBL (Project Based Learning).

Activities

Student-led clubs and societies play an important role in student empowerment and engagement with deeper learning at HXLS. It has over 20 clubs and societies that embody the democratic spirit of the students, of the students and for the students. Mandatory student club meetings are held after school hours on Wednesdays. Students from Grade 9 upwards can form a group and create their own interest-based club as well. Student leaders are elected from within each club.

Raahgiri day program originated in the school when 6 Grade students worked on a project to make Gurgaon a cycle-friendly city. The project later evolved into advocacy for non-motorized days, and in collaboration with local civil society organizations, came to be celebrated as Raahgiri Day. The days are now held in 11 cities in India and the movement continues to gain momentum

The Muskaan project, The Heritage Xperiential Learning School has also been working with the Haryana State Government to improve the quality of education in the state. Under the pilot project of Muskan, it adopted a government primary school where it shares practices in learning, innovative ideas and creativity with the school.
