Good Shepherd International School was founded in the year 1977 with the aim of providing young learners a holistic environment to gain knowledge and hone their skills.
History
Dr. P.C. Thomas founded the full-time residential international boarding school in 1977. The Good Shepherd International School is primarily a national institution with an international outlook, holding secular and democratic values. The key aim of the school is to develop the best that is innately existing in all children and to prepare them for the dynamic developments of the changing world through inculcating self discipline, gained knowledge and physical fitness.
Academics
The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The school also offers an International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) diploma programme for students in the final two years of secondary school.Lastly Students at Good Shepherd International School are also offered Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) which is designed as a two year curriculum program leading to a Certificate which is internationally recognized as equivalent in standard to the British GCSE and International GCE ‘O’ LEVEL Examinations.
InfrastructureÂ
Widespread over the 100-acre campus at Palada, Ooty, the infrastructure of the Good Shepherd International School boasts of extra-ordinary facilities and 56 well equipped classrooms. The campus also features a golf course and swimming pool amongst many other sport facilities. Each room has a defined storage apt for the entire class. The school has excellent ICT labs where the students have unlimited access to computers and the professional software tools that go with them. It has several state of art multimedia projectors with many accessories which has revolutionized the learning programmes at school.
Not just academic and technological, the school provides adequate infrastructural support for sports with the aesthetically designed basketball courts,volleyball courts, tennis courts and badminton courts that are built in the open space between the buildings to promote outdoor activities.Â
Activities
Performing arts include a plethora of Western and Indian music instruments like, brass and pipe bands, traditional and westerns instruments along with choirs and solo singing. Close to nature activities are offered like, camping, trekking, and mountaineering which are important not just for physical fitness but also to break the everyday routine. The school takes part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The school has a unit of the sea cadet corps, and is a registered centre of NASA for field study and leadership training. 65 students go every year to the NASA Space Center, Huntsville, Alabama, USA.
