About School: BIS, the small school with a big heart, is also a voice that is heard and respected far and wide in the world of education. It is a unique institution, founded in 1962 by a group of visionary parents who, being dissatisfied with the options available for their children, set out to establish something different.A parent cooperative, the BIS is led by a Governing Body consisting of the Trustees, Founder Members, elected Parent Members and Principal. It is guided by a constitution, drafted by the Founders, which spells out the guidelines and framework for the school, and ensures a continuity of philosophy and approach.Over the years, BIS has adapted and evolved to the needs of the day, always offering its students an outstanding learning experience.Learning takes many forms at BIS. Each student achieves his or her own potential in the classroom, gymnasium, art room, sports field or on the stage. Being a small school, there are several opportunities for each individual to explore and hone their unique talents. We encourage all our students to persevere, participate and take responsibility for their own development. Through the years at BIS our students are happy to come to school, as each day is an adventure, with something new and exciting to engage themOur excellent results at the IGCSE and IB Board examinations bear testimony to the excellence of the teaching staff who create a challenging and stimulating learning environment. This helps our students get a good grounding for their further education. Consequently, their undergraduate college placements are impressive. Our recent graduates attend, and have often received scholarships from, top universities like Stanford, Columbia, Cornell and Brown; Imperial College, London; UBC and McGill in Canada. Early decision acceptances for August 2017 have included Harvard and U.Penn. Students who chose to remain in India study at a variety of institutes including St. Xavier’s College, HR College, Jai Hind and ISDI Parsons in Mumbai, and Ashoka University, Sonipat. The BIS Board consists entirely of parents, holding two-year terms, and the Principal. Parents support the school in a number of ways — both informally, and through a variety of Committees in critical areas like infrastructure, food, transport, IT, sports and library. They work alongside teachers, students and administrators to foster a caring and collaborative community striving to make a difference.BIS believes there is no contradiction between learning and fun, joy and the pursuit of excellence, the global and the local, and between respecting tradition and embracing change.
